While the name Bubble Pop Autos might be new to you, the team behind it has a level of experience that is unequalled among USA-based JDM importers.
Company founder and director Danny Sheu is a US national who first moved to Tokyo in 2001. His passion for JDM cars has kept him in Japan ever since, buying cars at auctions for clients based all around the world. While Japanese cars are generally very reliable, many models have specific faults which are only understood and checked by those with years of experience. Bubble Pop Autos: why the funny name?
In the late 1980s, Japan was in the midst of an economic bubble. As an example, to give you an idea of how crazy real estate prices were, it is rumoured that the land value of Tokyo city was the equivalent to the entire USA! As a result of this new-found asset wealth:
- The general public began spending more money on items that flaunted this wealth, such as new sports cars
- Japanese car makers capitalised on this interest by producing a wide variety of exciting new models
- Japan has always loved its fads, so car manufacturers also pumped out countless limited edition variants and sports versions of their generic models
But then the bubble popped!
The asset bubble burst in the early ‘90s, but with vehicle model cycles having long lead times, the good times kept rolling right through the 1990s before manufacturers started tightening their belts and chopping back their model ranges.
The Bubble Pop Autos’ Japanese staff were there through it all; both they hey-day and then the downturn. During our time, we’ve driven (and purchased!) many thousands of amazing and unique cars, and we’re sure you’ll be just as hooked as we are!
Why buy a JDM car?
It is fairly common knowledge that Japan has one of the most efficient public transport systems in the world. What this means is that:
- A car is not a necessity for an average Japanese person: people don’t tend to own cars unless they really need them, or desire them
- The costs of purchasing, registering and even parking a car are extremely high by US standards: car ownership is therefore the domain of the wealthy and a car is generally considered a luxury item
- Those who can afford to purchase vehicles are generally also meticulous with maintenance, aided by strong warranty and servicing programs provided by Japanese manufacturers
- Japan is a small country, and JDM vehicles generally have much lower mileage than their US equivalents
However, here are some things you probably didn’t know:
- Car makers were so eager enough to reap profits from the lucrative Japanese car market that ALL manufacturers entered the fray. Yes, this means European, American, and all Japanese manufacturers.
- Japan permits registration vehicles in both left-hand drive and right-hand drive configuration. In fact, you will find most European classics and supercars in Japan are left-hand drive as it was considered more prestigious by the Japanese public.
- As a result, Japan has been exporting its used cars worldwide for many decades. The USA has only recently become aware of the potential of JDM classic cars at a mainstream level.
Why was Bubble Pop Autos LLC formed? Due to the exemption of federal regulations for 25 year old vehicles, we felt it was time for us to share our knowledge, experience, and passion with the car enthusiasts of the USA.
We will strive at our very best to provide our US clients with the very best that Japan has to offer, as we have already done for clients around the world for many years.
